One of the greatest architectural example from 19th century is Daugavpils fortress. This fortress is well preserved. The fortress is only one of its kind in Eastern Europe. It was built using old building techniques from Czarist Russia and Europe. You can see Gothic themes in architecture of Nicolay gates and the Water tower, but it is all. Almost everything else is built using Empire theme, which was very popular in those times. Daugavpils fortress is almost two times larger than the old center of the capital city of Latvia – Rīga. Area of this fortress is more than 150 hectares. From above this fortress makes beautiful ornamental view. Inside of this fortress is a good example, how did every soldiers town looked like those times.
