Fortress artillery arsenal building was built in 1833. Through the years this historic building has been used for different purposes. It has been a military warehouse, military canteen. But now there is exhibition hall.

From 24th April 2013 this is a unique place of contemporary art, where you can see the world famous Mark Rothko (1903-1970) original works. Mark Rothko is the founder of abstract expressionism and “Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre” is a unique place where you can look at his works. This exhibition of the artist’s original works is available only in Daugavpils.
