Daugavpils has been the center of production and trade for many years. It’s geographic position and railway junction was one of the main reasons,  why in 19^th century unique Daugavpils Shot Factory was built. The factory functions and develops even now. This is the oldest Shot tower in whole Europe and it was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Shot tower is still functioning.

Factory has gained the European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN) 3rd place award in a category “Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism – 2015″, also Latvian Tourism Development Agency’s nomination “The Most Successful New Tourism Product of 2013″ and the number of visitors is rapidly growing. Many tourists from the whole world arrive here – not only Europe, but USA, China and Australia. Some of them has chosen Daugavpils as the destination only because of the possibility to visit Daugavpils Shot Factory.
